This photo was taken by William Henry Jackson in 1890 showing the east shore of Manhattan above 182nd Street, looking south along the Harlem River to the Washington Bridge and High Bridge. Note this was before they took out the center part of the aqueduct (foot bridge) and made a single span to facilitate boat traffic.

Northwest side view of Fort Washington Avenue, Pinehurst Avenue, Cabrini Boulevard and Haven Avenue at 179th Street, taken in 1932. Note the awnings on apartments due to sunsets and no air conditioning. The building on the corner of Pinehurst Avenue has since been torn down and a Jewish house of worship now stands. All buildings west of Cabrini and 179th through 180th Streets were removed for the lower level of the George Washington Bridge. The remaining buildings are locacted on Riverside Drive.

This picture was taken on 172nd Street. Judging by the "classic" cars parked there, I would guess the picture was taken in the early 1950s. That's Highbridge Park and Amsterdam Avenue in the background.

Taken in the 1940s on West 187th Street and Fort Washington Avenue, this picture shows the Hilltop Pharmacy, which still remains, under the new ownership of a former employee named Bill. The Wines and Liquors store is now connected to the pharmacy. The laundry is now a bodega and where Flaherty's bar used to be is now a restaurant. Flaherty's Bar and Pizza was a great hangout for many. Xavier Cugart and his wife, Cuchi ("Charro") used to drink there, as they lived across the street. This pharmacy was one of three in this small area of stores.
