Summer evenings on Post Ave. were primarily spent on stoops or on the sidewalks in front of our buildings. People would bring out their folding beach chairs, cushions or folded cardboard. This would go on most of the year, weather permitting. Some folks would allow themselves a treat from Bungalow Bar, Merry Maid, Good Humor or Mr. Softee, others would go down to the corner candy store (Garon,s) for a cone or a pint of hand-packed ice cream while awaiting the arrival of the night edition of the Daily News, after which they would return home.
