Mom & Pop stores in Manhattan

I have many great memories of mom & pop stores from the 50s and 60s. Aside from the grocery and candy stores on every block, there were also Chinese laundries, shoe repair shops, dry cleaners, fruit & vegetable markets and butcher shops, mostly run by married couples. In Inwood, on Dyckman Street, we even had Jack's Pants, run by a couple. They ONLY sold all kinds of mens and boys trousers, and the belts and suspenders needed to hold them up with free alterations while you waited. Does anyone else from Manhattan have memories to share ?
